He finds that to try
to be the self-centered kind
would be to look through the view
of the all-seeing eye,
the curious glance of a lone passerby.
It has an appeal.
It shows at least what is real,
not what he invents
of  things that are concealed
to him of what others feel.
He thinks in third-person
so his mind does not worsen,
so that his focus is not
where it shouldn’t be brought:
into the being of others' thoughts.
